Experience
I have been an Occupational Therapist for 17 years. The majority of my early-career clinical work was in brain-injury rehabilitation and neurology, but I also dipped into medical wards, private hospitals and stroke. I worked primarily in London, across acute settings, specialist rehabilitation units and the community. My work has spanned the private sector and NHS. I am now a lecturer in Occupational Therapy at The University of Essex.
I have been a Music Therapist for 10 years and have worked with adults, children, groups and individuals. I’ve run choirs, taken music therapy to beautiful outdoor spaces and had the joy of working alongside other arts therapists and mental health professionals.
The majority of my music therapy work has been with teenagers who are adopted/ looked after, those who have experienced trauma, and those who are facing challenges in their lives. I frequently engage ‘difficult to engage’ teens (although if they see that written on my website, the bubble might burst). I love the energy of working in pupil referral units, specialist educational settings and inpatient adolescent mental health. I’ve felt privileged to be alongside people in their difficult moments, and to psychologically hold those who are experiencing challenges such as suicidal ideation and psychosis.
Additionally, I have been engaged in a range of teaching and training over the last 15 years, offering practical and engaging sessions for CPD and development.
